Jan Oldenburg

Jan Oldenburg, Vice President, Patient and Provider Engagement in Accountable Care Solutions from Aetna, is a nationally recognized thought leader on consumer health information strategy and patient engagement. Her experience includes 25 years of management with a focus on the intersection of health care and the Internet. She served on the CCHIT PHR committee in 2008-2009 and am an active participant in the HL7 PHR workgroup. Prior to joining Aetna Consulting, she worked with Kaiser Permanente and was a principal in several consulting companies focusing on strategies for using the Internet effectively in healthcare.

She chairs the National HIMSS Personal Health Records (PHR) Interoperability committee. Her focus on the Northern California HIMSS board has been the PHR and emerging technology programs, and bringing a consumer focus to our Northern California HIMSS Chapter.

She is the primary editor of a new book, Engage! Transforming Healthcare through Digital Patient Engagement, published by HIMSS in March, 2013 (available from the HIMSS bookstore at Www.tinyurl.com/buyEngage).

She has a track record of identifying strategic opportunities and delivering products and services that satisfy consumers while delivering outstanding ROI. She is passionate about using the internet and mobile channels to deliver patient engagement tools and solutions in the service of transforming healthcare and the physician-patient relationship.

Jan was elected to be a member of the Consumer Empowerment Workgroup (CEWG) of the Health IT Policy Committee (HITPC). The HITPC makes recommendations to the National Coordinator for Health IT on a policy framework for the development and adoption of a nationwide health information infrastructure. The Consumer Empowerment Workgroup (CEWG) is charged with providing recommendations on policy issues and opportunities for strengthening the ability of consumers, patients, and lay caregivers to manage health and health care for themselves or others.
